A Midsummer Night's Dream, 1999

THURSDAY MOVIE CONNECTION!!!
Kevin Kline- Rupert Everett

Director: Michael Hoffman

Stars: Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Rupert Everett, Stanley Tucci, Calista Flockhart

Shakespeare's play comes to life yet again!

So, this is a romantic comedy about two couples and how their lives are affected by the magic of the creatures in the forest.  It's very cute, though not the cleanest movie- Shakespeare wasn't noted for that, though.  But it's not totally dirty either.  Bottom line, if you like Shakespeare, you'll like it!  Actually, if you like Shakespeare, you've probably already seen it.....

Kevin Kline is hilarious!!!!  Really, he is one of my favorite actors.

Leap Year, 2010

Director: Anand Tucker

Stars: Amy Adams, Matthew Goode, John Lithgow, Adam Scott

Anna (Adams) decides to follow her boyfriend Jeremy (Scott) to Dublin, after her father tells her of an old Irish tradition: on February 29 women are allowed to propose to their boyfriends. (I would just like to say: I think it's a cute concept, except I would never do it, and a woman is allowed to propose any da*n day of the year, so it's all kind of stupid!)

So, of course, this is an Irish road trip movie, because every bad thing you can imagine happening happens. Her plane hits turbulent weather and is rerouted to Wales, where Anna is forced to take a boat over to Ireland, and because of the bad weather, she lands on the far side, a long way from Dublin. And so she has no choice but to hire ruggedly handsome, American-hating innkeeper Declan (Goode) to drive her to Dublin.

Yes, this is the part where it gets really interesting....

Okay, two things I hate, and otherwise, I love this movie.

1. I hate how it's always the rich, city girl who goes places and everybody laughs at her because she knows nothing and she's a fish out of water and she's wearing high heels, and of course, we all know that no one in Ireland wears high heels. So, I hate that movies are always like this----BUT I thought about it, and it makes sense, because rich girls who wear impractical shoes are the only ones who can afford to go to Ireland and other exotic places to make fools of themselves. We practical girls with our practical flats are busy working normal jobs and just can't afford it.

2. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the wedding reception scene. Why did THAT have to happen??? I hate it when people in movies embarrass themselves, and I don't think other people feel this way, so you probably won't mind.

It's good, I just had to get those two things taken care of. Thanks for reading my rant. Now go watch the movie!

Sweet Home Alabama, 2002

THURSDAY MOVIE CONNECTION!
Josh Lucas--Reese Witherspoon

Director: Andy Tenant (Fool's Gold, Hitch, Ever After: A Cinderella Story, Fools Rush In)
Stars: Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas, Patrick Dempsey

When big New York designer Melanie (Witherspoon) gets engaged to the Mayor's son (Dempsey), she goes back home to Alabama to get something she should have gotten many years ago: a divorce from her husband Jake (Lucas). Married right out of high school, Melanie had fled Alabama and Jake soon after the wedding, and had never come back. Until now.

Now Melanie faces her old home, her husband, her family, and old friends, trying to get Jake to sign the divorce papers. Then somehow, the Mayor gets wind of the situation and shows up in Alabama, trying to avoid a scandal.

I don't like the part where Mel makes a fool of herself, and that's quite a bit since she's so sure of herself (except not), and that never works out well. But this one has a happy ending, and it also has Josh Lucas. :)

The Accidental Husband, 2008

Director: Griffin Dunne
Stars: Uma Thurman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Colin Firth, Sam Shepard

Dr. Emily Lloyd (Thurman) is a radio talk show host, and her specialty is love and relationships. When she gives advice to a young woman about her upcoming wedding, the woman ends up calling it off, which changes her fiance, Patrick's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), life forever. Heartbroken, Patrick swears that he will have revenge on Lloyd, and soon gets his chance, when his young hacker friend hacks into public records. They change Emily's marital status, so suddenly it appears that she is married to Patrick.

Emily only becomes aware of this when she applies for a marriage license with her fiance Richard (Firth). Horrified, she sets off to meet this stranger who is apparently her husband. What follows is a mix of mistaken identity and situations where it looks like Patrick really is Emily's husband.

I think I would have liked it better if it hadn't been Uma Thurman. I don't like her. The only scene I really liked her in was the very last one, in which she is pregnant. Of course, I won't tell you who the father is so I didn't spoil it too much. Oh, whatever, you know who she ends up with anyway.

Speaking of that, holy cow, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has this ruggedly handsome--- something-ness that makes me swoon.

Someone Like You, 2001

Director: Tony Goldwyn
Stars: Ashley Judd, Greg Kinnear, Hugh Jackman, Marisa Tomei

Cute. Not the cleanest movie ever, but not the dirtiest either. Very cute!

Jane (Judd) meets Ray (Kinnear), and they begin dating, though he is already dating Dee. Six weeks later, Ray calls it off just as they are planning to move in together. Needing a place to stay (not to mention recover), she moves in with her womanizing co-worker, Eddie (Jackman). With her life falling apart, Jane comes up with a theory for why men leave women. Under a false name, her theories (equating men with cows) are published in a men's magazine, and suddenly everyone wants to meet and interview her! Or her assumed identity, anyway.

And of course, the truth is going to come out. Soon everyone will know the real identity of "Dr. Marie Charles", and Jane will realize that she has probably misjudged men, especially Eddie.

I love Greg Kinnear. He's so hilarious in this movie!
